Backgrounds
A fluid animated background where luminous orange arcs bend, overlap, and dissolve into flowing waves of light against a near-black canvas.
Arc Light transforms a dark background into a continuous flow of luminous curves. Warm amber highlights stretch across deep orange glows, forming sweeping arcs, glowing loops, and fluid shapes that evolve throughout the animation.
The effect combines bright curved edges with diffused light and overlapping colour gradients. As the shapes fold and reshape, they create a sense of depth and movement without relying on conventional particles or rigid geometric patterns.
Designed for creative studios, technology brands, and immersive digital experiences, Arc Light creates a distinctive visual atmosphere. Its smooth transitions and rich orange tones make it particularly effective for fullscreen hero sections and minimal, image-free compositions.
import ArcLight from '@/components/effects/arc-light' const page = () => { return ( <div className="h-screen w-full"> <ArcLight /> </div> )} export default pageConsider a creative technology company launching a new digital product. The homepage opens with a bold headline against a near-black background, while Arc Light moves through broad, glowing curves behind the content.
The luminous shapes continuously fold and expand, adding visual energy without requiring additional imagery. The contrast between dark regions and warm orange highlights helps establish a futuristic atmosphere.
The result is a distinctive landing page that gives the product a strong visual identity while keeping its message and primary call to action prominent.
Arc Light is less suitable for dense dashboards, administrative interfaces, and content-heavy pages where continuous background movement could interfere with readability. Its bright flowing shapes may compete with text positioned directly over the animation.
Avoid combining it with several other prominent background effects. Arc Light works best as a central visual element, supported by restrained typography and minimal competing motion.
Keep light transitions smooth without introducing unnecessary rendering work. Limit excessive blur processing, redundant animation updates, and visual layers that add little to the final appearance.
On mobile and lower-powered devices, simplify the animated composition when necessary. Pause offscreen movement and provide a static fallback to preserve responsiveness.
Maintain sufficient contrast between foreground text and the shifting orange highlights. Keep navigation, headings, and interactive elements accessible independently of the decorative background.
On mobile, adapt the composition to preserve its flowing curves without overwhelming smaller screens. Respect prefers-reduced-motion by pausing the animation or displaying a static frame.
| Prop | Type | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
color | color | #ff5f00 | Colour of the light. The arcs keep their shading and take on this hue. |
backgroundColor | color | #07060f | Canvas colour behind the light. |
saturation | number | 1 | Colour strength. 0 is greyscale, 1 is the picked colour. |
intensity | number | 1 | Overall brightness. 1 matches the reference. |
softness | number | 1 | How diffuse the light is. Above 1 spreads it wider and softer. |
grain | number | 0.06 | Film grain strength. 0 turns it off. |
speed | number | 1 | How fast the arcs drift. 0 holds them still. |
flow | number | 1 | How far the arcs sway while they drift. |
interactive | boolean | true | Let the pointer stir the light like ink in water. |
smearStrength | number | 1 | How far a stroke drags the light. |
smearRadius | number | 0.1 | Width of the stroke, in canvas heights. |
Arc Light is an animated React background featuring flowing orange arcs, soft luminous glows, and continuously evolving light formations against a near-black canvas.
A WebGL2 shader draws three pieces of light: a thin arc sweeping along the bottom, a soft band inside it, and a broad glow lighting the right-hand edge. They drift and sway over time, and moving the pointer smears the light like ink in water.
Yes. Arc Light can be integrated into React and Next.js applications using the appropriate client-side animation setup.
No Three.js. Arc Light is drawn with raw WebGL2 shaders on a single canvas and has no runtime dependencies beyond React. It does need WebGL2: where the browser can't provide it, nothing is drawn and only the background colour shows.
Yes. The color prop sets the colour of the light (orange #ff5f00 by default) while the arcs keep their shading. Other props cover backgroundColor, saturation, intensity, softness and grain, speed and flow, and the pointer smear (interactive, smearStrength, smearRadius).
Yes. It pauses while offscreen or in a hidden tab, caps the canvas pixel ratio, and holds a single still frame when reduced motion is preferred.
